Job Description

The Step Down Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality, patient-centered care to moderately acute patients requiring close monitoring and advanced nursing interventions. Working in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Intermediate Care Unit (IMC), or Stepdown Unit, the RN is responsible for managing complex patient conditions, monitoring cardiac and respiratory status, and responding to changes in patient condition.

This role requires strong clinical judgment, experience with cardiac monitoring, and the ability to manage multiple drips and advanced therapies while collaborating closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing monitoring

  • Administer medications and titrate cardiac, vasoactive, and insulin drips per protocol

  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and respond to dysrhythmias

  • Manage central lines, PICC lines, and peripheral IVs

  • Provide blood product administration and IV therapy

  • Participate in Rapid Response and Code Team activities

  • Provide respiratory support including oxygen therapy, HFNC, CPAP/BIPAP, and tracheostomy care

  • Deliver neurological monitoring for stroke, seizure disorders, and substance withdrawal

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record

  • Adhere to infection control, isolation, and patient safety protocols
