Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Surgical Intensive Care Unit Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required in specialty License: Compact or state license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Epic experience required - Experience with PA catheters and balloon pumps preferred - Previous charge experience is a plus - Float requirement to other ICUs and step-down units Description: Please ensure you are aware of the expectations upon accepting an assignment. There may be an expectation to stay at the facility for emergency events or be part of the relief team. Specific details pertaining to pay will be relayed during each emergency event, as impacts may vary. You should be comfortable with these expectations before applying for the position. The unit consists of high acuity ICU patients with a patient ratio of 1:2. Skills required include caring for post-operative patients, transplant recovery, and general surgical care. Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy is essential. You will be responsible for the care of ventilated patients, central line management, and administration of blood products. You should have knowledge of managing patients with multi-system organ dysfunction or failure. Infection prevention and interpretation of arterial blood gases are also key responsibilities. Candidates must have experience managing patients post-cardiac surgery, and knowledge of intra-aortic balloon pumps is required. The patient demographics include adults and geriatric populations. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and social services. Daily census consists of patients with diagnoses such as cardiac surgery, transplant patients, and general surgical cases. You will be required to float to other ICUs or specialties as needed.
