Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must be able to titrate cardiac drips. Travelers will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to signing the contract (maximum of 2 attempts). Within 48 hours of the offer, if the traveler fails, they will be sent home and marked as DNU for 6 months in relevant regions. There will also be a pass/fail simulation lab on day one of orientation. If the traveler fails the simulation, they will be sent home and marked as DNU for 6 months. Floating among all telemetry and medical-surgical units is required. Travelers may float to ICU, cardiac telemetry, as well as all telemetry, medical-surgical units, any holding areas (including Cath Lab, observation floor, and others). They are expected to float between campuses as needed. Notification regarding campus and unit will be given 1.5 hours prior to shift start. Floating to different units mid-shift may occur. Description: Unit has 32 beds. Ratios are 1:3-4. Charge nurses do not have patient assignments. There is a clinical supervisor in a management role. Patient care technicians are available at a ratio of 1 per every 16 patients. Shifts are 12 hours from 7 to 7. Floating is required to similar or lower acuity units. Common diagnoses include post-cath lab, post-vascular procedures, CABG patients, and general telemetry patients. Medications requiring titration include amiodarone, cardene, nitroglycerin, heparin, and dobutamine (titrating down only). No pediatrics are included; patients should be 15 years and older. All necessary services (RT and pharmacy) are available 24/7. Orientations will include two days on the floor. Additional floating to medical-surgical units is required. Unit will have a variety of patients primarily from surgical, orthopedic, and oncology specialties. All care will be overseen by hospitalists or intensivists, with coverage on call at night. Nurse aides will be available during the day. Weekend requirements will include four weekend shifts over a four-week period. The position does not include a specific focus on any one type of patient. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. The charting system will be electronic. The rate of required shifts may vary as per applicable guidelines.
