RN Telemetry – Cardiac/Medical | 3rd Floor
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a Telemetry – Cardiac/Medical unit. The unit provides care to a diverse adult patient population, including cardiac, respiratory, neurological, diabetic, and post-surgical patients. Strong telemetry skills and the ability to interpret cardiac rhythms are essential.

- Department: Telemetry – WC Cardiac/Medical, 3rd Floor
- Beds: 49
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Charting System: Cerner recommended
- Orientation: 1 shift
- Scrub Color: Navy Blue
Common Patient Population & Diagnoses
Patients commonly include those with:
- CHF and other cardiac conditions
- COVID and respiratory conditions
- GI diagnoses
- Diabetes
- Telemetry/cardiac monitoring needs
- Post-cath patients
- CVA and TIA
- Total joint replacement patients
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- Current RN license
- BLS – Required
- ACLS – Required
- Strong telemetry experience
- Ability to read and interpret basic telemetry strips
- Experience with CVA/TIA patients preferred
- Total joint replacement experience preferred
- Cerner experience strongly recommended due to limited orientation
Telemetry & Cardiac Skills
- Telemetry/monitor technicians are available on the unit.
- RNs are responsible for independently interpreting telemetry strips.
- RNs must interpret and document/sign telemetry rhythm assessments at least once per shift.
- Nurses do not routinely titrate drips.
- Diltiazem/Cardizem drips may be managed at a set rate.
Respiratory Support
The unit cares for patients requiring:
- CPAP
- BiPAP
- Respiratory treatments
Staffing & Support
- RN Ratio: 1:5
- Nurse Aides: Approximately 1 aide per 10–15 patients
- Charge Nurse: Available
- House Supervisor: Available
- Telemetry/Monitor Technicians available
Schedule
- Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM / 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Schedules are prepared in 4-week blocks.
- Self-scheduling is available; schedules are finalized after manager review and balancing.
- Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
- Call/Standby: None
Holiday Requirement
For the major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, travelers are expected to work a combination of holiday shifts. Scheduling may include:
- 2 days + 1 eve, or
- 2 eves + 1 day
Applicable shifts include Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.
Floating Requirements
Travelers may be required to float to:
- East Campus
- PCU, if appropriately qualified
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation: 1 shift
- Due to the limited orientation period, candidates should be comfortable working independently and possess strong telemetry skills.
Required Pre-Contract Assessment
Candidates must successfully complete a dysrhythmia examination within two attempts prior to signing the contract.
- Minimum passing score: 80%
- Maximum attempts: 2
- Failure to achieve the required score after two attempts will result in Do Not Use (DNU) status for CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento for 6 months.
Radius & Employment Restrictions
- 50-mile radius rule applies.
- Candidates must not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the previous 12 months.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a confident Telemetry RN with strong cardiac rhythm interpretation skills, experience caring for medically complex adult patients, and the ability to work independently with minimal orientation. Candidates should be comfortable caring for cardiac, respiratory, neurological, post-cath, and post-surgical patients in a fast-paced telemetry environment.
