Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced MST/PCU Registered Nurse (RN) to provide care for adult medical-surgical, telemetry, and PCU patients.

The unit consists of 30 beds across three 10-bed units with typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5–6. Candidates should be comfortable caring for both MST and PCU-level patients, interpreting telemetry rhythms, and working in a fast-paced acute-care environment.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience – Required
• Telemetry experience preferred
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Must be willing and able to care for both MST and PCU patients
• May be asked to precept nursing students
• BLS – Required
• ACLS – Required

Dysrhythmia Examination

A dysrhythmia exam is required prior to signing the contract.

• Clinician must achieve a minimum score of 80%
• Maximum of 2 attempts
• If the clinician does not achieve 80% within two attempts, they will be designated DNU for CS AZ and Sacramento for 6 months

• Medical-Surgical patients
• Telemetry patients
• PCU-level patients

Surgical Patients

• Total hip replacement
• Total knee replacement
• Small bowel resection
• Hysterectomy
• Exploratory laparotomy

Medical Patients

• MRSA infections
• C. difficile infections
• Suicide attempts
• Drug and alcohol withdrawal
• COPD
• Pneumonia
• COVID-19

Telemetry

• Chest pain
• Cardiac monitoring patients

Telemetry Requirements

Telemetry is an important component of this unit.

• Remote Monitor Technicians are available.
• RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips.
• Strong dysrhythmia recognition skills are required.

IV Drips

• RNs are not required to titrate drips on this unit.
• No specific titratable or set-rate drips are identified.

Respiratory Support

RNs may care for stable patients requiring:

• CPAP
• BiPAP

Charge Nurse / Staffing

The Charge RN/House Supervisor manages approximately 50 inpatient beds, including:

• MST
• Pediatrics
• Multi Care Unit (MCU)

The Acuity Adaptable MCU may admit ICU, PCU, and MST-level patients.

Nurse Aides

• Nurse Aides typically care for 10–15 patients.
• If no Nurse Aide is available, the RN may take approximately 3 patients and provide primary care.

Floating Requirements

Floating is required based on operational needs.

Travelers may float to:

• Multi Care Unit (MCU) to care for adult MST patients
• Pediatric Unit for appropriate adult MST assignments
• West Campus Med/Surg Telemetry

Candidates should be comfortable floating between departments and caring for patients within their scope and competency.

Schedule

Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Weekend Requirement

• Nights: Every other weekend, Friday and Saturday
• Days: Every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday

Holidays

Holiday rotation applies to ensure holidays are distributed fairly among staff.

Low Census / Standby

If census is low, staff may rotate through standby assignments.

Travelers may or may not participate in the low-census standby rotation, depending on the terms of their contract.

Orientation

• Hospital orientation required
• Unit-specific orientation will be based on the clinician's experience
• Candidates must be willing to precept nursing students

Dress Code

• Any scrub color is permitted
• Camouflage scrubs are not permitted

Assignment Requirements & Important Policies

• 50-mile radius rule applies.
• Candidates may not have been full-time, part-time, or PRN employees with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year.
• Profile review and manager interview required.
• Dysrhythmia exam must be successfully completed before contract signing.
• Minimum passing score: 80%
• Maximum attempts: 2

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a Med/Surg RN with strong telemetry and PCU exposure, capable of independently interpreting cardiac rhythms and comfortably caring for a mixed MST/PCU patient population. Candidates should also be flexible with floating and willing to support nursing student education when needed.
