Description:
Unit is a busy and fast-paced environment.
Staff typically cares for an average of 18 patients, with a ratio of 1:6.
Common patient diagnoses include pre/post Cath, CP rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, pacers, and arrhythmias.
RN's must be capable of reading and interpreting EKG strips.
The unit has Tele monitor techs available for support, but RN's are responsible for real-time viewing.
Charge nurses are present on the unit 24/7, with night charge nurses also taking patients.
Nurse aids can manage a ratio of 1:10 but may also see ratios as high as 1:14-15, depending on census and staffing.
Common duties include performing EKGs, bladder scans, FSBS, helping with activities of daily living, and taking vital signs.
The unit primarily uses Bipap and Cpap for supportive therapy.
Drug administration includes set-rate drips only; titration is not required.
Traveling nurses can expect to work every other weekend and may be floated to different areas of the hospital, including ICU and stepdown units, based on patient care requirements.
Scrub color is royal blue, and all staff must adhere to the dress code by wearing appropriate scrub jackets if needed.
