Opportunity:

RN - Telemetry/Stepdown

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• 3 shifts per week schedule
• Every other weekend required with night shift working Friday/Saturday
• Rotating holidays required including Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years
• No on-call responsibilities on this unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 for telemetry patients and 1:3-4 for stepdown patients
• Work with common diagnoses including telemetry, post-catheterization, medical/surgical with telemetry monitoring needs, and respiratory difficulty
• Expected to have understanding and comfort with basic dysrhythmia and verify telemetry strip interpretation
• Perform point of care testing including blood sugar monitoring using AccuChek glucometer with barcode scanning
• Place IVs and draw labs from central lines when ordered
• Reconstitute antibiotics and manage titrating heparin for telemetry patients
• Nebulizers and breathing treatments are within scope of practice though respiratory therapy is nearly always available
• Self-scheduling is allowed for travelers with block scheduling available depending on unit needs
• Floating may occur to a comparable or lower level unit such as telemetry or med/surg, and occasionally to assist with admitted boarded patients in the emergency department
• Travelers may be asked to precept or take charge role depending on comfort level
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Charting system: EPIC (preferred)
• Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
• Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required
• Driver's license with address outside of 50 miles from the facility required
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS

Facility:

This acute care facility operates a 20-bed telemetry unit with all private rooms located on the second floor. The unit is supported by a designated charge nurse, two patient care technicians for 20 beds, a unit-based pharmacist available five days a week from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 24/7 main pharmacy coverage, respiratory therapy available around the clock, and at least one covering hospitalist at all times. Cardiac monitoring is supported by monitor technicians located on the sixth floor who provide hospital-wide monitoring and communicate directly with assigned nurses regarding any concerns.
