Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Cardiac Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS & ACLS required Must-Have: Must be able to read ECG strips. Comfortable with cardiac patients. Able to titrate Heparin and occasionally Lasix or Bumex. Description: The unit is a Cardiac Telemetry unit with 43 beds, including semi-private and private rooms. The average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, with the possibility of flexing up to 1:6. Common diagnoses include post-heart catheterizations, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and arrhythmias. Nurses are expected to read strips and manage patients requiring titration of certain drips. There are monitor technicians to assist with telemetry monitoring. Charge nurses are available 24/7, but night shift charge nurses typically take a patient assignment. Patient care technicians assist with ratios targeting 1:8 but may increase depending on staffing needs. Patients may require supportive therapy such as CPAP or BiPAP, though transfers to higher acuity units are common for patients needing continuous support. Shifts are self-scheduled, with weekend shifts every other week for travelers. Holiday rotation is primarily for permanent staff, but travelers may be required to work weekends based on unit needs. Travelers are incorporated into the float rotation but only assigned patients within their skillset. The dress code requires royal blue scrubs without hoodies or non-scrub jackets. The orientation includes one day of computer training followed by one day of floor shadowing. The unit values teamwork, and staff actively supports one another in a fast-paced environment. Nurses manage their own admissions and discharges, but can seek assistance if needed.
