Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Observation - Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active Registered Nurse License required Certifications: BLS & ACLS required Must-Have: - Ability to read strips - Experience with set-rate Cardizem & Amiodarone - Experience with TR Bands is a plus Description: This position involves working with medications and cardiac observation patients. The unit typically has 21 beds and is usually staffed for 18. Average nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:6. Common diagnoses include pre/post catheterizations, chest pain rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, and arrhythmias. Registered Nurses will be required to read and interpret cardiac strips. Tele-monitor technicians are available, but nurses must have the ability to interpret results. Charge nurses are present 24/7, with night charge nurses also taking patients. There are nurse aides in the ratios of 1:10, occasionally reaching 1:14-15 based on census and staffing. Duties include administering EKGs, bladder scans, FSBS, performing activities of daily living, and monitoring all vital signs. Respiratory equipment utilized includes BiPAP and CPAP for supportive therapy. Shifts are scheduled as 12-hour shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM. Time-off requests must be made upfront during the contract negotiation. Weekends are required every other weekend for travelers. Holiday rotations are a consideration for permanent staff, with possible weekend work for travelers based on unit needs. Travelers may be floated to various units within the facility as needed, only being assigned patients within their skill set. Dress code requires royal blue scrubs, with specific guidelines for jackets. This is a fast-paced unit that frequently discharges and admits patients throughout the day. The cancellation policy allows for a limited number of shift cancellations during the assignment. Charting is performed using EPIC. This position does not require a BSN. All candidates must hold the appropriate nursing license.
