Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Cardio Thoracic Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active Illinois license required Certifications: BLS; ACLS recommended Must-Have: - EKG interpretation - Medication titration - RN licensure - Basic nursing skills - Experience with titrating drips Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Cardio Thoracic care. The unit has a patient capacity of 70 beds. Day nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5, while night ratios are 1:5-6. Common diagnoses include myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and various lung surgeries. Clinical responsibilities include managing patients with chest tubes and post-operative care. The candidate must have experience in EKG interpretation and medication titration. RNs are expected to titrate drips, particularly Cardizem and heparin. Charge nurses cover shifts 24/7 without taking patient assignments. There is also a house supervisor available around the clock. Patient care techs assist on the unit, with a ratio of 1:8-9 during the day shift. Respiratory equipment used includes CPAP and BiPAP, which RNs may need to troubleshoot in specific cases. Tele-monitoring techs are present, and nurses must read and interpret their own strips. Shifts are scheduled from 0700-1930 and 1900-0730. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Holiday rotation is expected, including major national holidays. Floating to other general medical units may occur as needed. Scrubs can be of any color, excluding children or cartoon-type prints, as the unit focuses on adult care. Orientation will be conducted based on prior experience within the facility. The charting system used is EPIC. This is a fast-paced acute care division in nursing.
