Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Cardio Thoracic Telemetry Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS required, ACLS recommended Must-Have: EKG interpretation, medication titration, basic nursing skills Description: The unit consists of 70 beds. Nurse to patient ratios during the day are 1:4-5 and at night are 1:5-6. Common diagnoses include myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and various lung surgeries. Nurses will manage chest tubes and patients post-esophagectomy. Experience with EKG interpretation is essential. Nurses must be able to titrate drips, primarily Cardizem and heparin. Charge nurses are available 24/7, and they rarely take patient assignments. A house supervisor is also present around the clock. Patient care technicians are assigned at ratios of 1:8-9 during the day, 1:9-10 in the evening, and 1:10-12 at night. Nurses are required to troubleshoot equipment such as CPAP and BiPAP. Nurses must read and interpret their own telemetry strips; monitor technicians are available for assistance. Shifts include a weekend requirement, rotating every other weekend. All staff must participate in holiday rotations. Nurses are expected to float to other general medical units as needed. Dress code allows for any colored scrubs, excluding children's prints. Unit-specific orientation will be provided based on prior experience.
