Ratios: 1:4 tele patients, 1:5 MedSurg patients (mixed team stays at 1:4)
Common diagnoses: Acute/chronic medical conditions, post-surgical patients (including total joints — must be comfortable with this population), urology, GYN, podiatry, general surgery, potential stroke patients
Cerner experience preferred
No titratable drips, except Heparin drips (no cardiac drips on this unit)
Remote telemetry (Philips); monitor tech stationed on 4W cardiac tele unit; RNs required to read, interpret, and sign off on strips as well
House Supervisor in-house 24/7; Nurse Manager during business hours; Nurse Shift Managers + Charge/Break Nurse each shift
CNAs available based on census
RT equipment: CPAP/BiPAP per order (no vents)
Holiday requirement: 1 major + 1 minor minimum
Floating: Travelers float first — may go to Mercy Downtown (~6.5 miles away), any MedSurg Tele unit, ICU (for MedSurg Tele patients), or ER (for MedSurg Tele holds)
Scrub color: Navy blue (undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets must be navy; no hoodies/sweatshirts)
Unit/department-specific orientation: 1-2 shifts with preceptor
