Registered Nurse (RN), Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Telemetry
Job Summary
Join our dedicated nursing team in Hilo, Hawaii, as a Registered Nurse in our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Telemetry department. This 15-bed unit provides specialized care, including 3 Step-Down ICU beds and 12 Telemetry beds, serving a diverse adult patient population requiring continuous cardiac monitoring and close observation.
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, managing patient assignments with ratios of 1:4 for Progressive Care and 1:3 for Step-Down ICU. This role offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic acute care setting, contributing to positive patient outcomes in a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive primary nursing care to patients in the Progressive Care Unit and Telemetry.
Perform continuous telemetry monitoring and accurate interpretation of telemetry strips.
Conduct fingerstick blood sugar monitoring and manage related interventions.
Administer medications safely and efficiently using Pyxis system.
Utilize Meditech for accurate and timely patient charting.
Operate and monitor equipment such as BIPAP and continuous cardiac monitoring systems.
Float to other acute care units as needed, including Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Emergency Room (ER).
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Minimum of one (1) year of recent hospital acute care experience within the last year.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Telemetry settings.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Skills & Competencies
Proficiency in Meditech charting system.
Competence in using Pyxis for medication management.
Experience with BIPAP machines.
Skilled in continuous cardiac monitoring and interpretation.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and unit demands.

Start Date: September 28, 2026
Shift Type: AM shifts
Shift Duration: 8 hours
Weekly Hours: Scheduled 36 hours per week following the first week of orientation.
Call Requirements: No call required.
Weekend Rotation: Not specified.
Guaranteed Hours: No guarantee of hours.
Licensing Requirements
Active and unencumbered Hawaii Registered Nurse (RN) license required by the start of the assignment.
