Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Telemetry
Job Summary
Join our dedicated nursing team as a Registered Nurse in a dynamic Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Telemetry setting in Hilo, Hawaii. This 15-bed unit comprises 3 Step-down ICU beds and 12 Telemetry beds, providing comprehensive care for acutely ill patients requiring continuous monitoring and specialized interventions.
As a PCU/Telemetry RN, you will deliver primary nursing care, focusing on telemetry monitoring, interpretation of cardiac rhythms, and essential patient assessments. You will manage a patient load with ratios of 1:4 in Progressive Care and 1:3 in the Step-down ICU, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive primary nursing care to a diverse patient population.
Perform continuous telemetry monitoring and accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms.
Conduct fingerstick blood sugar monitoring and manage related interventions.
Administer medications safely and efficiently using Pyxis.
Utilize Meditech for accurate and timely patient charting.
Operate and monitor medical equipment such as BIPAP and continuous cardiac monitoring systems.
Float to other acute care units within the hospital, including Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Emergency Room (ER), as needed.
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Minimum of one (1) year of recent (within the last year) acute care hospital experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Telemetry setting.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Soft Skills: Critical thinking, adaptability, effective communication, ability to manage diverse patient populations.

Weekly Hours: Scheduled 36 hours per week following the first week of orientation (no guarantee of hours).

Licensing Requirements
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Hawaii. Candidates not currently holding an active Hawaii license must apply upon acceptance of an offer and must possess the Hawaii license by the assignment start date.
