Tele RN – 4 West Breakdown

Shift & Schedule

• Shift: Days
• Hours: 12-hour shifts
• Time:6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
• Guaranteed:36 hours/week
• Contract: 13 weeks
• Every other weekend (EOW): Required
• Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
  • Day shift: Saturday/Sunday
  • Night shift: Friday/Saturday
• Call: No call
• Block scheduling: Not available
• Self-scheduling: Available based on seniority

• Patient ratio:1:3–4
• EMR:Cerner
• Scrubs: Navy

Patient Population

Common diagnoses include:

• Stroke
• TIA
• Seizures
• TBI
• Mixed Medical/Telemetry patients

Experience

• 2–3 years of Tele/Med-Tele experience required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Candidate must have strong Tele/Med-Tele skills.

Telemetry Requirements

This is definitely a Telemetry RN position.

• GE Apex telemetry boxes
• Central telemetry monitoring
• 2 monitor techs
• RN must read and interpret telemetry strips
• RN must pass a dysrhythmia exam

Certifications

Required:

• ACLS
• BLS
• NIHSS
• COVID vaccination required

Drips

RNs do not need to titrate drips, but they may manage:

• Heparin drip
• Amiodarone drip
• Cardizem drip
• DKA set-rate/protocol

Respiratory Equipment

Experience with:

• BiPAP
• CPAP
• HFNC

No ventilators.

Staffing

• 1 Nurse Shift Manager
• 1 Resource/Break RN
• Charge/Resource staff do not take patient assignments
• 1–2 Unit Aides
• RT support available

Floating

First to float.

Traveler may float to:

• IMCU – 2 West
• Med/Surg departments

So the candidate must be comfortable floating outside the Tele unit.

Orientation

• 1 shift on the unit

Other Important Notes

• Unit is very busy and usually full at all 22 beds.
• Strong emphasis on bedside shift report.
• Focus on patient experience, HCAHPS, core measures, and stroke measures.
• Facility wants someone who is:

  • Invested in the facility's mission and values
• Facility is described as traveler friendly.

Cancellation

• Hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
• For assignments shorter than 13 weeks, up to 3 shifts can be cancelled.

License

• License required at submission.

BSN

• BSN is NOT required.
