Contract | Night Shift | 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Every other weekend required | Holiday rotation required
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care on a 70-bed Cardio Thoracic unit managing diagnoses including MI, CHF, atrial fibrillation, COPD, pacemaker/AICD placement, lung surgeries with chest tubes, and esophagectomy cases
Perform continuous EKG monitoring, independently read and interpret telemetry strips using Philips monitoring systems alongside monitor technicians
Titrate drips including Cardizem and heparin per unit protocols
Manage patients on CPAP, BiPAP (home regimen), and heated high-flow oxygen as indicated
Maintain night shift nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5–6, collaborating with PCTs and a 24/7 charge nurse and house supervisor
Float to other general medical units as needed
Required Qualifications
Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Proficiency in EKG interpretation and cardiac telemetry monitoring
Experience with medication titration, including vasoactive and cardiac drips
Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility maintains a drug-free campus policy
Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates
Preferred Experience / Skills
ACLS certification (recommended)
Prior experience in a cardio thoracic, telemetry, or step-down unit setting
Familiarity with chest tube management and post-surgical cardiac/thoracic patient populations
Previous experience at a comparable acute care facility
