Provide direct patient care on a 14-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit serving inpatients with medical diagnoses and secondary behavioral health components, including confused patients, dementia, and low cognitive ability
Monitor patients via telemetry and participate in continuous video security monitoring protocols; utilize panic button safety equipment
Perform and maintain competency in sterile field procedures including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
Administer and document chemical restraints; apply rare physical restraints per facility policy; adhere to lift and wound care protocols
Float as needed to ED psych holds and potentially to Med/Surg floors
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including behavioral health techs, security, Psych MD, SWAT RN, Respiratory Therapy (24/7), and Pharmacy (24/7)
Required Qualifications
Active RN licensure in good standing
Level 1 Trauma experience required
Current BLS and ACLS certifications
Med/Surg Telemetry experience required; must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (two attempts allowed)
Proficiency with Cerner EMR
Demonstrated competency in sterile field technique, Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing changes; must pass Day 1 SIMs Lab skills assessment (pass/fail)
Preferred Experience / Skills
Psychiatric or behavioral health nursing experience
Experience working with patients with mental illness, dementia, or low cognitive ability
Willingness and desire to work with mentally ill patient populations
