Job Title: Occupational Therapist Profession: Occupational Therapy Specialty: Staff Augmentation Duration: 20 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM Experience: Two years of therapy experience, pediatric therapy experience, experience working with sensory impaired individuals, experience working with children with complex needs License: State occupational therapist license Certifications: National certification from the Occupational Therapy Examiners, AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card Must-Have: - Ability to pass FBI and state background checks - Completion/graduation from an accredited occupational therapy program Description: The Occupational Therapist is part of the related services providers. The therapist evaluates students referred for occupational therapy as a result of observation, record review, or multidisciplinary staffing. Additional responsibilities include planning occupational therapy programs for individual students. The therapist writes IEP goals and implements programs through the IEP process. They confer with teachers, teaching parents, and parents on the therapy plans for students. The therapist maintains occupational therapy records and disseminates information to parents and professionals relevant to student progress and occupational therapy needs. They train staff in techniques and principles of therapy. The therapist maintains current information about community resources relevant to occupational therapy. They serve as a resource to medical and educational staff. Participation in relevant billing processes is expected. COTAs provide support to students in the area of occupational therapy, as directed by a supervising occupational therapist. They assist in the process of screening/evaluation and the implementation of intervention services. COTAs work with students identified with, or suspected of having, disabilities that interfere with their ability to perform daily life activities. They limit access to the educational program. A COTA implements individually designed interventions based on occupational performance deficits in personal care, student interaction skills, process skills, and play/community integration. Interventions are planned with the supervising occupational therapist. Additionally, the COTA is responsible for taking daily notes on therapeutic progress and documenting them in quarterly reports. They must be knowledgeable about the policies and procedures regarding special education and be capable of carrying out therapy plans directed by the occupational therapist. COTAs also participate in relevant billing processes.
