Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Oncology RN with chemotherapy certification and at least 1 year of oncology nursing experience for a 13-week assignment.

Details

  • Inpatient Oncology unit within an acute care hospital setting
  • Average daily census of 24 patients across 24 rooms/beds
  • Patient ratio of approximately 1:6-7
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:15 AM - 6:45 PM)
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities as needed
  • Uses Cerner charting system

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license in hand or in the application process required
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience required
  • BLS certification required
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) required
  • OCN certification preferred
  • AHA and Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI cards not accepted
  • Required chemotherapy skills including administration, IV push, continuous infusion, oral administration, body fluid handling, and cytotoxic spill management
  • Required IV therapy/infusion skills including port access and management, central line and PICC line care, central line blood draws, and starting IVs
  • Experience monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
  • Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • First-time travelers accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to an inpatient oncology population, including administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy treatments
  • Manage symptoms related to treatment side effects such as nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, and altered mental status
  • Provide psychosocial support including patient/family education and hospice care as needed
  • Facility is a Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated hospital with 562 staffed beds
  • Scrubs may be any solid color
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
  • Requested time off ideally limited to no more than 5 days
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees must be separated from the facility for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travel pairs are not accepted
  • Housing availability in the area may be limited
