Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology Chemo Certified RN for a night shift Med/Surg Oncology position requiring 2 years of recent oncology experience and chemotherapy certification.

Details

  • Work in the Oncology Chemo Certified unit of a hospital setting
  • Care for Medical Surgical Oncology patients including Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Multiple Myeloma
  • Support research initiatives including clinical trials, CAR-T therapy, and stem cell transplants
  • Includes BMT, General, and Hematology/Oncology patient populations
  • Patient ratio of 1:4-5
  • Epic charting system preferred
  • Schedule of 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required to like units such as Med Surg to meet staffing needs
  • May be expected to float between sister facilities near the contracted location

Requirements

  • Active WA or Compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) required; ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration course accepted
  • OCN certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of recent oncology experience required
  • Candidates with less oncology experience but actively working toward chemo certification may be considered for manager screening
  • Experience with IV therapy, infusions, and port accessing/management required
  • Experience managing oncologic emergencies including ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression preferred
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration via multiple routes (oral, IV push, continuous infusion) required
  • Experience monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values required
  • PICC line care, port care and management, and starting/maintaining IVs preferred
  • Experience with PCA pump management, tracheostomy care, and wound care preferred
  • Experience caring for patients with Lymphoma/Non-Hodgkins lymphoma and Multiple Myeloma preferred
  • Chest tube setup/care, CPAP/BiPap, procedure sedation, cooling/warming blanket, drains, feeding tubes, fistula care, and syringe pump experience preferred
  • Experience with Heparin, Insulin, and Lasix preferred
  • Two supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to oncology patients including administration and monitoring of chemotherapy treatments
  • Support patients undergoing bone marrow transplant and stem cell therapies
  • Deliver psychosocial care, hospice care, and patient/family education and support
  • Manage cytotoxic spills and handle body fluids post-chemotherapy safely
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former Providence-affiliated permanent employees must be separated from the health system for a minimum of 3 months and reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify
  • Local candidates accepted at a lower bill rate
  • Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius for local rate eligibility
  • Must commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
  • RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted upfront during the application process
  • Compact license must be active and in hand at time of consideration
