Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a BMT Oncology unit requiring oncology/chemo experience and ONS/ONCC certification.

Details

  • Work in the BMT Oncology unit of a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital
  • Patient ratio of 4:1 across all shifts with an average daily census of 30 and 32 beds/rooms
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required throughout the Oncology department to the unit of greatest need per shift, not limited to home unit
  • Care for patients undergoing autologous stem cell transplants and chemotherapy administration
  • Uses EPIC for charting

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and Chemo (ONS/ONCC)
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology/chemo nursing experience required
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience with accessing/managing ports, central line and PICC line care, central line blood draws, and blood/blood product administration required
  • Experience starting and maintaining IVs, foley catheter insertion/management, and isolation precautions required
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring and interpretation required
  • EPIC charting experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care including chemotherapy administration, port and central line management, and symptom management for oncology patients
  • Manage oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
  • Support bone marrow transplant patients, including monitoring for graft rejection and graft-versus-host disease
  • Administer medications including antibiotics, antiemetics, and pain management agents
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Must maintain facial hair that allows for proper respirator fit testing or be clean-shaven
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this position
  • Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of orientation
  • Travelers may remain at BJC facilities for up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
  • Permanent BJC or Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
