Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN with 2+ years of recent oncology experience for a 13-week assignment at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital.

Details

  • Work on a primary oncology unit treating all types of cancer across all phases of care, from work-up through completion of therapy
  • Administer inpatient chemotherapy regimens to patients
  • Provide post-operative care for uro-gyn and gyn-onc surgical populations
  • Serve as a step-down neuro overflow unit for strokes, head bleeds, and other neurological needs
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
  • Weekend requirement of 8 shifts within Saint Luke's 6-week schedule period, combination of Fri/Sat/Sun
  • Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed per unit
  • Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Uses EPIC charting system

Requirements

  • Active RN license required; both Kansas and Missouri licenses or compact license must be in hand at time of consideration due to floating requirements
  • Current BLS certification required; Chemo certification (ONS/ONCC) preferred
  • 2 years of recent oncology experience required, with a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gaps greater than 90 days in that year
  • Previous Charge RN experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • EPIC charting experience preferred
  • Proficiency required in IV therapy/infusions including blood product administration, port care, central line management, and infusion pump management
  • Skilled in managing oncologic emergencies including sepsis
  • Experience with chemotherapy-related medications including antibiotics, antiemetics, and corticosteroids
  • Competency in symptom management including altered mental status, dysphagia, edema, and neuropathy
  • Skilled in chest tube care, colostomy care, Foley catheter management, and wound care
  • Experience with pain management including IV push narcotics and PCA pump management
  • Post-surgical care experience required
  • Two professional references required, from within the past year, with at least one at supervisor level or above and the second from a Charge RN
  • Pending license accepted

  • Provide comprehensive oncology nursing care across the full spectrum of cancer diagnoses and treatment phases
  • Deliver patient and family education and support, including guidance on advance directives
  • Collaborate with care team on isolation and neutropenic precautions
  • Facility is a 5-time Magnet Award-winning, teaching, Level 1 Trauma hospital with 456 staffed beds
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates within this radius are not accepted
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days; requests must be finalized at time of consideration with no additional RTO requests after offer
  • Returning staff must have a 3-month break in service if previously worked 18 months at the facility
  • Former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a travel clinician
  • Free parking available
  • Facility may extend an offer without an interview, though candidates may request one if preferred
