Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN for a night shift Med/Surg-Oncology position at a Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of oncology and surgical experience.

Details

  • 28-bed acute care Medical/Surgical Oncology inpatient unit
  • Cares for patients undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and/or biologicals, including aggressive curative therapy, symptom management, ostomy, and palliative care
  • Patient ratio of 1:4
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Weekend coverage required on an as-needed basis
  • No call requirements
  • Floating within the hospital required, no floating to sister hospitals
  • Uses EPIC charting system

Requirements

  • Active WA state or compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Oncology and surgical experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Oncology experience in an academic medical center preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy, port access and management, and central line care
  • Experience managing oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation, hemorrhage, and sepsis
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration and post-chemotherapy body fluid handling
  • Skilled in symptom management including nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, altered mental status, and skin/mucous membrane alterations
  • Experience caring for patients with various cancer types including breast, lung, colorectal, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma
  • Proficient in wound care, chest tube management, ostomy care, and Foley catheter insertion
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions, PPE, and neutropenic precautions

Additional Information

  • Located within a Magnet-designated academic teaching medical center
  • Provide skilled nursing care to oncology patients, including psychosocial support, hospice care, and patient/family education
  • Coordinate care and communicate abnormal lab values as part of interdisciplinary team
  • Scrubs of any color permitted; scrubs provided for OR personnel
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate as travelers
  • No mileage radius restriction
  • RTO limited to 1 week maximum, with no time off permitted during the first two weeks of assignment
  • Prior UW staff must have an 18-month separation before returning as a traveler
  • COVID vaccination and booster required with no exceptions
