Description
American Traveler is hiring a Chemo-Certified Oncology RN with 2+ years' experience and required Chemo, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications for a night shift assignment at a cancer center.
Details
- Inpatient oncology unit within a cancer center at an IMC level of care
- Patient population includes general Med/Surg, BMT, clinical trials, surgical oncology, and all liquid/solid tumor diagnoses
- Patient ratio of 1:4-5+
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
- Every other weekend (Sat/Sun) required
- Floating required within scope of practice, primarily to other Oncology units but may include MS/Tele, Stepdown, and IMC floors on the main campus
- Uses Epic for charting
- Navy blue scrubs required
Requirements
- Active NJ or Compact RN license required
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, Chemo (ONS/ONCC), and NIHSS
- OCN and ONS/ONCC certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Teaching hospital and community hospital experience required
- Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Telemetry skills required
- Epic charting experience required
- Skilled in IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, central line care, and PICC line care
- Experience with chemotherapy administration (IV push, continuous infusion, oral) and biotherapy/immunotherapy agents
- Ability to recognize and manage oncologic emergencies including tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
- Experience with post-surgical and radiation therapy patient care
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care for a wide range of oncology diagnoses including breast, lung, colorectal, leukemia/lymphoma, and other solid and liquid tumors
- Deliver psychosocial support including advanced directives, hospice care, and patient/family education
- Manage symptoms such as nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, altered mental status, and skin/mucous membrane alterations
- Administer medications including antiemetics, corticosteroids, hormonal therapy, and Neupogen
- Provide care for post-surgical and radiation therapy patients as needed
- Must work or provide on-call coverage for 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate
- Former RWJBH employees (full-time or PRN) must be separated from the system for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
