Travel Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) needed in Olney, Maryland, for a 13-week contract supporting approximately 25 surgical cases daily across seven operating rooms. Travel Nursing Job Details

- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,280–$2,400

- Schedule: 40 hours per week; day shifts
- Shift Duration: 8-hour days, with shift windows of approximately 6:45 a.m.–3:15 p.m. or 10:45 a.m.–7:15 p.m.; some scheduling details may include extended day coverage
- Call Requirement: Up to five 12-hour call shifts per six-week scheduling period, primarily on weekends; occasional weekday call may be needed
- Clinical Volume: Approximately 25 operating room cases daily across seven ORs
- Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, pediatric patients, and geriatric patients
Operating Room RN Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent general surgery operating room experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required, including at least one completed travel assignment
- Current Registered Nurse license in Maryland or a valid compact RN license required at submission
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Recent community hospital operating room experience required
- Experience with Cerner electronic health record (EHR) charting required
- Strong experience with general, gynecologic, orthopedic, vascular, spine, urologic, and laparoscopic procedures preferred
- Flu vaccination required; exemptions are not available
- Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment
- Ability to participate in weekend and occasional weekday call coverage
Operating Room Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide safe, compassionate perioperative nursing care throughout the surgical process
- Prepare operating rooms, surgical equipment, instruments, supplies, and medications for scheduled procedures
- Perform circulating nurse and scrub-related operating room responsibilities according to department needs
- Support a broad range of general surgery and specialty procedures, including abdominal surgery, hysterectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, orthopedic and spine procedures, vascular surgery, urology, gynecology, and robotic or laparoscopic cases
- Complete patient assessments, surgical site verification, specimen handling, medication administration, and documentation in Cerner
- Maintain infection prevention, sterile technique, universal protocol, surgical time-out, and patient safety standards
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary support teams
- Respond professionally to urgent surgical needs and assigned call coverage
