Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 17-week travel assignment at a Magnet-designated academic medical center in Madison, WI, with a strong background in complex general surgery and transplant cases required.

Details

  • Hospital-based Operating Room in a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching facility ranked as Wisconsin's #1 hospital and a nationally recognized referral center
  • Complex surgical specialties include Tier 4 general surgery and Tier 5 procedures: kidney and pancreas transplant, organ procurement, HIPEC, Whipple, trauma, colectomy, burns, laparoscopic, and Da Vinci Xi robotic surgery
  • Additional surgical subspecialties include gynecology, plastics, bariatrics, ENT, thoracic (VATS), urology, endoscopic procedures, and pediatric general surgery
  • Day shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 9:40 AM – 10:10 PM
  • Travelers are required to float as needed
  • Epic EMR required
  • OR equipment includes cell saver, electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources, and Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system

Requirements

  • Active WI RN license or compact RN license with WI privileges required
  • Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care OR experience within the last 3 years required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Level I or Level II Trauma experience preferred
  • Proficiency in complex general surgery procedures required; gynecologic, plastics, bariatric, and transplant experience preferred
  • Experience with Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system and laparoscopic-assisted procedures expected
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply — prior travel experience is not required
  • A telemetry exam (both adult and pediatric) is required prior to start and must be passed within a limited number of attempts; strict passing criteria apply, including 100% identification of lethal rhythms on the adult exam
  • Candidates have two attempts to pass the telemetry exam; a third attempt may be granted upon submission of a cardiac interpretation review course certificate — failure after three attempts will result in assignment cancellation
  • Teaching institution experience is preferred given the academic and referral center environment
  • Core responsibilities include scrub and/or circulating roles across a broad range of surgical specialties, with emphasis on infection control, universal protocol (time-out), specimen handling, and emergency response (code response, malignant hyperthermia, fire safety, latex allergy protocols)
  • A parking permit is required for on-site parking; alternative transportation options (bus, park & ride, private parking) are available nearby
