Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Operating Room position requiring at least 2 years of general surgery experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

  • Work in a General OR setting at a community hospital
  • Day shift with alternating start times: 2x8 days (0645-1515 or 1045-1915) and 2x12 days (0645-1915), totaling 40 hours per week
  • Orientation held on Mondays
  • On-call required up to 12 hours per week (Monday 7pm through Friday 7am) and 12 hours on weekends (Friday 7pm through Sunday 7pm)
  • Every other holiday is required
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Required surgical skills include general surgery procedures: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), laparoscopic-assisted procedures, mastectomy, and thyroidectomy
  • Preferred orthopedic skills include arthroscopy, arthrotomy, carpal tunnel release, fracture reductions, laminectomy/discectomy, and total joint replacement

Requirements

  • Active MD state RN license or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent general surgery OR experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required (minimum of 1 completed travel assignment)
  • Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience in the previous 3 years
  • Driver's license required for local status determination

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include general OR nursing with a focus on general surgery, infection control, specimen handling and labeling, and universal protocol (time-out) procedures
  • Code response and fire safety awareness are expected competencies
  • Nurses with previous MedStar employment must have been separated for a minimum of one year before being eligible to return as a traveler
  • No RTO is permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; RTO must be submitted upfront and cannot exceed 7 days per 13-week contract
  • Candidates residing within 60 miles of the facility are eligible to apply; local candidates are accepted at a different rate
  • Interviews with the hiring manager are not guaranteed; candidates should be comfortable proceeding without one
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
