Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Operating Room RN for a Level I trauma center, requiring an active IL license and a minimum of 2.5 years of general OR and trauma surgical experience.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting within a 23-room Operating Room department
• Works with all service lines except cardiovascular (CV)
• Day shift schedule: 4x10 hours, 6:45 AM to 5:15 PM
• Weekend rotation required approximately once per month
• On-call requirement of about once per week
• Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities as needed
• Uses Cerner charting system
• Uses electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables

Requirements

• Active Illinois (IL) RN license required in hand or in active application process
• Minimum 2.5 years of Operating Room RN experience required
• BLS certification required; CNOR and CST certifications preferred
• Level I trauma center experience required
• General OR and trauma surgical case experience required
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Experience with general surgery cases such as appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, mastectomy, and thyroidectomy
• Experience with neurology cases including cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, and lumbar fusion
• Experience with orthopedic cases including arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, and fracture reductions
• Experience with urology cases including cystoscopy, nephrectomy, and prostatectomy
• Experience with trauma cases including amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, and multi-injury MVA cases
• Experience with organ donation/transplant procedures
• Experience with laparoscopic-assisted bariatric cases
• Experience with microvascular free flap plastic surgery procedures
• Skilled in blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling, universal protocol time-out procedures, and urinary catheterization
• Prior travel RN experience required
• First-time travelers not accepted
• Social Security number and date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

• Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated facility with 562 staffed beds
• Scrubs provided for this role
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Previous permanent or PRN employees must have been separated from the facility for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• All requested time off must be reviewed and approved by the facility manager
• Up to 5 non-holiday RTO days may be auto-approved; additional days require facility approval
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• First day of assignment is a virtual, at-home orientation with required modules completed by 4:00 PM CST
• Pre-start training modules must be completed and are renewed annually
• Facility does not accept travel pairs
