Job Summary: Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse position in Idaho. This role involves supporting a small, family-oriented department with a focus on preoperative and postoperative patient care. The PACU staff will be responsible for managing recovery post-anesthesia, supporting all phases of care, and maintaining patient safety. Flexibility and teamwork are essential in this dynamic environment.
Job Details:
Location: NAMPA, Idaho
Schedule: Day shifts with multiple start times between 05:30 AM and 01:00 PM; shifts are 8 hours long, with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
Required Qualifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications; minimum of 1 year of experience in PACU or equivalent; Idaho state nursing license or ability to obtain; willing to wait for licensing submission.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Epic electronic medical records system and familiarity with acute care units.
Responsibilities include preparing patients for surgery, managing post-anesthesia recovery, assisting with airway management, pain control, and patient turnover. Staff rotate between Preoperative and PACU phases, supporting general surgery, breast, orthopedic, urology, and obstetric/gynecologic cases.
Support staff includes two nursing aides responsible for tasks such as EKGs, blood draws, vitals, and bladder scanning.
The charge nurse manages unit flow and may take assignments; anesthesia oversees the use of respiratory equipment.
The unit may occasionally recover ICU patients.
Staff must be able to read rhythm strips and identify life-threatening rhythms.
Shifts may require floating within the hospital, but outside hospital floating is not typical.
Dress code: Scrubs provided.
Orientation involves three days with a preceptor plus general hospital onboarding.
Shift hours are 8 hours, with a 30-minute call response time, and potential call, weekend, holiday, and float requirements.
