Job Summary:
Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Specialty position in a healthcare facility. This role involves providing recovery care for post-operative patients, including those undergoing various surgical procedures such as joint replacements, hysterectomies, spinal fusions, and other orthopedic and surgical cases. The PACU nurse will be responsible for patient monitoring, managing ventilators and ABGs, and coordinating patient discharge instructions. The shift is scheduled for 12-hour days, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.

Job Details:

• Schedule: 12-hour shifts, starting at approximately 8:30 or 9:00 AM, every other weekend, with first to float responsibilities. Shift hours are subject to change with a 2-hour prior notice.
• Required Qualifications: Certifications in ACLS, BLS, and PALS; at least 2 years of recovery/ICU experience; valid licensure to submit; ability to read and interpret medical strips; familiarity with Vents, ICP monitors; experience with pediatric recoveries; knowledge of Cerner and Surginet charting systems; unit-specific orientation including charting, patient care processes, and managing multiple critical patients simultaneously.
• Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Phase 2 recovery, experience with discharge instructions, care for pediatric patients (from day of birth), and ability to work with vents, ICP monitors, and ABGs.
• Additional Information:
  • Unit has 15 beds divided into Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery.
  • Certifications preferred include CPAN or CCRN.
  • Surgical recoveries include orthopedic, general, robotic, and elective cardioversion cases.
  • No neonate recoveries; ICU and PACU may recover the same patients if applicable, with collaborative recovery involving ICU nurses when necessary.
  • The facility has coverage for 24/7 anesthesia, pharmacy, and ICU intensivist services.
  • Call requirements are rotational, involving weekday, weekend, and holiday coverage.
  • No float required but capability to manage phase 2 discharges and provide in-house instructions is essential.
