Job Summary:
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) specialty position located in Oakland is a high-level clinical role within a healthcare organization. This role involves providing specialized patient care in the post-anesthesia environment, ensuring patient safety, and managing recovery from anesthesia. The position requires a committed healthcare professional to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary setting with a focus on patient recovery and stabilization.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Days shift, 10 hours per shift, minimum of 40 hours per week, starting on 08/18/2026
- Required Qualifications: CA Registered Nurse (RN) license, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications, minimum of 2 years of experience, ability to float to other healthcare facilities within a 75+ mile radius
- Preferred Qualifications: Certified Post Anesthesia Care Nurse (CPAN)
- Certifications: BLS, PALS, CPAN
- Skills: Airway assessment, arterial line management, blood product administration, cardioversion, cardiac and neuro patient care, discharge instructions, dysrhythmia recognition/management, emergency medications, inpatient and outpatient care, interpretation of lab values, isolation precautions/PPE, pain management including PCA pump, placement of oral/nasal airways, post-cath and post-epidural management, pre-op assessment and education, spinal and spine surgery care, starting and maintaining IVs, thoracic procedures, total joints, urology, and various other clinical skills needed for PACU care.
- Patient Age Groups: Adolescents, infants, adults, pediatrics
- Additional Unit Information: Interdisciplinary support includes respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, social services, pharmacy, unit secretary. The daily patient census is approximately 25 patients across 12 rooms and beds, with diagnoses including sleep disordered breathing, leukemia, fractures, cardiac issues, and various surgical procedures.
- Travel & Staffing Notes: Travel experience is required. Floating to different departments, units, or facilities is permissible and may occur during the assignment. All required modules are non-billable and must be completed prior to start. The position requires current CA RN licensure and completion of all hospital-required certifications. References from recent employers are needed at submittal.
