PACU Registered Nurse (RN) Travel Contract – Upper Marlboro, Maryland

PACU Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,850–$1,950
• Location: Upper Marlboro, Maryland
• Healthcare Setting: 16-room post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) with approximately 15–20 patients in the daily census
• Start Date: October 26, 2026
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours per week
• Shift Duration: 12-hour rotating day and night shifts
• Shift Times: Days approximately 7:30 a.m.–8:00 p.m.; nights approximately 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m. or 7:30 p.m.–8:00 a.m.
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend, equivalent to two weekends per schedule cycle
• Patient Ratio: 1:4 on days, nights, and weekends
• Patient Population: Pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Clinical Focus: Orthopedic, neurologic, cardiothoracic, vascular, general, thoracic, urologic, and gynecologic surgery
• Additional Scheduling: Holidays are required as scheduled; floating within the specialty, including pre-op, may be required
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs

PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Maryland or Compact Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 2 years of recent PACU nursing experience
• Strong candidates with 3–5 years of PACU experience and at least 2 years of ICU experience may be considered for a first travel nursing assignment
• Travel nursing experience preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications; BLS, ACLS, and PALS must be from the American Heart Association
• Current CPI certification, with an approved online course accepted where applicable
• Experience with Phase I and Phase II recovery, pediatric PACU care, airway management, procedural sedation, hemodynamic monitoring, and post-operative assessment
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Ability to manage a 1:4 patient ratio and float within the clinical scope of practice
• Influenza vaccination is required

PACU RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive Phase I and Phase II recovery care for patients following surgical and invasive procedures
• Assess and monitor patients of all ages for airway, respiratory, neurologic, cardiovascular, and pain-related complications
• Care for patients recovering from orthopedic, neurologic, cardiothoracic, vascular, thoracic, general, urologic, and gynecologic procedures
• Manage airways, ventilated patients, arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, IV therapies, vasopressors, PCA pumps, and other post-operative equipment as indicated
• Recognize and respond to dysrhythmias, cardiac arrest, changes in level of consciousness, abnormal laboratory values, and other emergent conditions
• Administer medications, reversal agents, blood products, pain therapies, and procedural sedation in accordance with established protocols
• Perform or assist with post-operative procedures, including IV placement, urinary catheterization, EKG acquisition, and circulation checks
• Provide discharge education, medication reconciliation, follow-up communication, and transition-of-care instructions
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgeons, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, and other interdisciplinary teams
• Float within the specialty and support pre-operative services as assigned
