PACU Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Hilo, Hawaii

PACU Travel Nurse Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,860–$1,960
• Location: Hilo, Hawaii
• Healthcare Setting: Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU)
• Start Date: November 9, 2026
• End Date: February 8, 2027
• Contract Duration: 13-week travel nursing contract
• Schedule: Approximately 36 hours per week; variable shifts with no guaranteed hours or shift preference
• Shift Duration: Rotating 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
• On-Call: Approximately 0–3 times per month, including 8-hour overnight and 24-hour weekend/holiday call shifts
• Position Type: On-site PACU travel nurse assignment

PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent PACU nursing experience; 2+ years of hospital-based critical care experience, such as ICU or emergency nursing, may be considered
• Active Hawaii Registered Nurse (RN) license by the start of the assignment; nurses without an active Hawaii license must apply upon acceptance
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Recommended: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Strong critical-thinking, patient-assessment, and post-anesthesia recovery skills
• Proof of influenza vaccination or an approved medical or religious exemption before the contract begins
• Ability to attend the required employee health appointment during the week before the assignment start date

PACU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care to patients before surgery and during Phase I and Phase II recovery
• Perform focused post-anesthesia assessments and recognize changes in patient condition promptly
• Monitor airway status, vital signs, body temperature, incision sites, pain levels, and other indicators of recovery or complications
• Apply advanced knowledge of anesthesia recovery and critical care nursing principles
• Administer medications and manage pain-control therapies according to clinical orders and protocols
• Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, nurses, and the broader perioperative team to support safe patient transitions
• Provide clear handoff communication and patient and family education as patients progress through recovery
• Safely operate and document care using equipment and systems such as Meditech, PCA pumps, Pyxis, IV pumps, cryotherapy devices, compression devices, warming systems, and patient monitors
