Description

American Traveler is hiring a PACU RN for a Level I Trauma Center night shift position requiring at least one year of critical care or Level I Trauma PACU experience.

Details

  • Level I Trauma Center PACU within a large acute care hospital
  • Recovers surgical patients including GU, GYN, colorectal, minimally invasive, bariatric, and some ENT cases, plus a separate IR pre/post area
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Manages complex postoperative patients with multiple drains, vasoactive drips, mechanical ventilation, and general anesthesia recovery
  • Night shift nurses pre-op first-case patients from 0530-0730 when no PACU patients are assigned
  • Schedule is 3x12 night shifts, Monday-Friday, with rotating start times (1900-0730 or 1700-0530)
  • No weekend requirement
  • On-call requirement of 24 hours per 6-week schedule period
  • Floats within service line as needed
  • Uses Epic for charting

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license required (compact must match permanent residence)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of critical care/ICU or Level I Trauma Center PACU experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Proficiency in dysrhythmia recognition/management, cardiac monitoring, and care of ventilated patients required
  • IV therapy/phlebotomy and IV vasopressor administration skills required
  • Pre/post-operative patient care, pre-op assessment, education, and medication administration skills required
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Must be clean-shaven or have facial hair compatible with respirator fit testing

Additional Information

  • Provides comprehensive post-anesthesia care to complex surgical patients, including those with multiple drains and vasoactive drips
  • Works within a Level I Trauma Center PACU team supporting high-acuity surgical recovery
  • Scrub color is navy
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this role
  • Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; no local candidates accepted
  • RTO limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract, with no RTO during the first week of assignment
  • Pending license accepted at time of submission
  • Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
  • Standard travelers may work up to 18 months before a required 3-month break in service
