Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced PACU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring 2 years of PACU and critical care experience.

Details

• Level I Trauma Center PACU unit with 38 patient bays and an average daily census of 70-90
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30), working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• No on-call requirements
• Patient population includes adults, occasional adolescents, and geriatric patients
• Recovers surgical patients from neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, GYN, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant services
• Does not recover open heart surgery or liver transplant cases
• Unit has dedicated PCT/transport team support
• Uses Epic charting system
• Floating limited to PACU or PreOp units only
• Night shift staff will need to learn preop patient workup

Requirements

• Active MO or compact RN license required (pending license accepted)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN and TNCC preferred
• Minimum 2 years of PACU experience in a Level I Trauma Center required
• Critical care/ICU experience required
• Level I and Level II trauma experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Skills required include dysrhythmia recognition/management, blood product administration, phlebotomy, IV starts, IV vasopressors, ICP monitoring, and care of ventilated patients
• Experience with GU/renal, AV fistula/shunt, central line care, cardiac monitoring, and various surgical specialties preferred
• Pre/post-op care skills including 12-lead EKG, pre-op assessment, education, and medication administration required
• Facial hair must accommodate proper respirator fit testing

Additional Information

• Provide critical care recovery for a wide range of acute post-operative surgical patients
• First-time travelers accepted, provided they have 2 years of Level I critical care/ICU and PACU experience
• Navy blue scrubs required
• No more than 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week
• Local candidates not accepted; must reside at least 75 miles from the facility
• Standard travelers may stay up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
• Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
• Magnet-designated teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center environment
