PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or a compact state
• At least 2 years of recent pre-operative, post-operative, and PACU nursing experience with pediatric patients
• Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• Strong clinical assessment, airway management, and post-anesthesia recovery skills
• Previous Epic electronic medical record experience required
• Ability to provide safe, compassionate pediatric patient care in a fast-paced surgical environment

PACU RN Responsibilities

• Provide pre-operative, post-operative, and post-anesthesia nursing care for pediatric surgical patients
• Monitor patients throughout post-anesthesia recovery and promptly identify changes in airway, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurologic, and pain status
• Administer medications and treatments according to established orders and protocols
• Assess pain, nausea, surgical sites, vital signs, and readiness for transfer or discharge
• Maintain accurate nursing documentation and care coordination in Epic
• Communicate effectively with anesthesia, surgical, nursing, and other interdisciplinary healthcare team members
• Provide thorough handoff reports and patient and family education as appropriate
• Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and department policies while supporting a positive patient experience
