PACU Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Philadelphia, PA

Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,070–$2,180
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: November 16, 2026
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour day shifts
- Shift Times: Typically 6:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–8:30 p.m., with call
- Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:2
- Department Volume: Approximately 30 patients per day across 12 rooms
- Call Requirement: Two 8-hour weekday call shifts Monday–Thursday and one 12-hour weekend call shift during a six-week schedule
- Orientation: 16 hours
- Float Expectation: May float to designated GI, pain center, SPU, or PACU areas based on operational needs
- Charting: Electronic medical record experience required; exposure to Epic and/or Cerner SurgiNet is beneficial
PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license valid for practice in Pennsylvania at the time of submission
- At least 3 years of RN experience, including a minimum of 2 years in PACU or critical care
- Level I Trauma experience required
- ICU background required; SICU, MICU, and CTICU experience preferred
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers with the appropriate clinical background may be considered
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications
- Demonstrated experience caring for both adult and pediatric post-anesthesia patients
- Strong assessment, airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, and emergency response skills
- Ability to complete required compliance items, references, credential verification, and pre-employment screening within designated timelines
PACU Nurse Responsibilities
- Assess, monitor, and stabilize patients during Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia recovery
- Provide pre- and post-procedure nursing care for surgical, endoscopy, interventional radiology, cardiac catheterization, and other procedural patients
- Manage complex airways, ventilated patients, arterial lines, central lines, Swan-Ganz monitoring, drains, chest tubes, and ventriculostomies as indicated
- Titrate vasoactive infusions and manage emergency medications according to patient condition and protocol
- Recognize and respond to dysrhythmias, airway compromise, hemodynamic instability, malignant hyperthermia, and other post-procedural emergencies
- Care for patients following complex procedures, including craniotomy, transplant, thoracic, vascular, orthopedic, neurologic, ENT, urologic, gynecologic, cardiac, and trauma procedures
- Administer procedural sedation and monitor patients receiving anesthesia reversal agents, nerve blocks, epidurals, and opioid analgesics
- Complete focused assessments, pain and nausea management, medication reconciliation, discharge education, and follow-up communication
- Collaborate with anesthesia, surgeons, procedural teams, pharmacy, social services, and interpretation services to support safe patient transitions
- Float to assigned specialty recovery areas when needed while maintaining high standards of patient safety and documentation
