Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced PACU RN for a Level I Trauma Center requiring 2 years of PACU and critical care experience with no weekends, holidays, or on-call.

Details

  • Work in the PACU of a Magnet-designated, teaching hospital that is a Level I Trauma Center
  • 38-bay unit open 24/7 with an average daily census of 70-90 patients
  • Provide pre and post-procedural care for endoscopy and interventional radiology patients
  • Care for adult, occasional adolescent, and geriatric patient populations
  • Recover surgical patients from neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, GYN, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant services
  • Does not recover open heart surgery or liver transplant patients
  • Day shift schedule, 4x10-hour shifts from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday-Friday
  • No weekend, holiday, or on-call requirements
  • Floating required within PACU or PreOp units only
  • Unit has dedicated PCT/transport team support
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • CCRN and TNCC certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of PACU experience in a Level I Trauma Center required
  • ICU/critical care experience required
  • Level II Trauma experience also required
  • Epic EMR charting experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Critical care skills required, including dysrhythmia recognition/management, blood product administration, phlebotomy, IV starts, IV vasopressor administration, ICP monitoring, and care of ventilated patients
  • Experience with pre/post-op care, pre-op assessment and education, and obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG required
  • Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility
  • Pending license accepted for consideration

Additional Information

  • Recover a wide variety of acute post-op surgical patients, including those requiring artificial airways, invasive monitoring, transfusions, and vasoactive medications
  • Night shift staff will need to learn to work up pre-op patients
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Facility is a short-term acute care hospital with 1,273 staffed beds
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided they meet the 2-year Level I Critical Care/ICU and PACU experience requirement
  • No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
  • Local candidates within 75 miles of the facility are not accepted
  • Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing or must be shaved
  • Previous BJC permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Returning travelers must have completed an 18-month tenure with a 3-month break in service before returning
