Description
American Traveler is hiring a PACU RN for a Level 2 trauma acute care hospital, requiring 2 years of recovery/ICU experience and current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.
Details
- PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) setting within a Level 2 trauma acute care hospital
- 15 cubicle-bed unit supporting Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery
- Patient ratio of 2:1
- Recovers total joint replacement, hysterectomy, total shoulder, lap choly, D&C, spinal fusion, laminectomy, AV fistula, brain tumor excision, and cardioversion cases (no open hearts)
- Peds recovery experience needed, from day of birth (no neonates)
- EMR/charting system used is Cerner-Surginet
- 12-hour day shifts with staggered start times (0730-1000), every other weekend
- Floating not required but must be able to function in Phase 2 and discharge patients home
- Call required approximately 2 weekdays plus Saturday night or Sunday (day/night) on a rotational basis
- Holiday coverage is call-only on a rotational basis with permanent staff
- Charge nurse present on each shift; PCA aides available to draw blood and perform EKGs
- 24/7 in-house RT, pharmacy, ICU intensivist, and anesthesia coverage available
- No IV team on this unit
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recovery/ICU experience required
- CPAN or CCRN certification preferred
- Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips (GE Spacelabs), ABGs, and troubleshooting ventilators (Bayer) and ICP monitors
- Comfortable recovering pediatric patients from day of birth (no neonates)
- Cerner-Surginet EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Recover post-surgical patients including orthopedic, robotic, and general surgery cases
- Provide care in PACU and occasionally assist recovering ICU patients on-site when called in
- Know how to print and provide appropriate after-care instructions to patients upon discharge using Surginet
- Unit orientation includes 3 shifts covering Surginet charting, patient care processes, managing two patients simultaneously, and critical patient recovery
- Navy scrubs required or facility-supplied scrubs
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
