Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PACU position requiring critical care competencies for night shift and PALS certification for a mixed pediatric-to-geriatric surgical population.

Details

• Works in the PreOp-PACU unit, covering Pre-Op (24 beds), PACU (19 beds), Phase 2 recovery, and Endoscopy prep/discharge
• Cares for infants through geriatric patients undergoing ambulatory, elective, and acute/trauma procedures
• RN-to-patient ratios: Pre-Op 1:2-3, PACU 1:1 or 1:2, Phase 2 1:2-4, dependent on acuity and patient needs
• Shift options include Days/Variable (three 12-hour shifts between 0500-2300) or Nights (four 10-hour shifts, 2030-0700, scheduled consecutively)
• Night shift RNs must have critical care experience including ICU cases, hemodynamic drips, and ventilator management
• Variable shift RNs perform IV insertion, ventilator care, epidural/PCA setup, blood product administration, and moderate sedation monitoring
• Uses Epic EMR and Omnicell medication dispensing system
• Routine floating to PreOp, PACU, Endo prep/discharge, and Phase 2 within scope of practice
• Weekend call rotation required approximately every 4 weeks with 15-minute response time
• Weekday on-call shifts (2300-0700) required every 3-5 weeks, except for night shift RNs
• Required to work 2 holidays per year on a rotating basis

Requirements

• Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
• Minimum of 1.5 years of RN experience required
• Completion of an accredited nursing education program required
• Night shift RNs must have critical care/ICU experience including hemodynamic drips and ventilated patients
• Epic EMR experience preferred; facility approval required if candidate lacks experience

Additional Information

• Provide pre-op preparation, intra-op recovery, and discharge care across PACU, Pre-Op, Phase 2, and Endo units
• Support from CNAs, charge nurses, resource nurses, RT, hospitalists, and anesthesia/CRNA teams
• May assist with patient boarding if inpatient beds are unavailable
• One-week orientation rotating through PreOp, PACU, Phase 2, and Endo departments
• May be asked to precept nursing students
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Free parking available in on-site garage
• No RTO approved during the first three weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
• Time off requests must be approved through the unit manager
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Facility is known for being traveler-friendly and frequently renews travel staff
• Candidates must reside outside a 100-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
