A graduate of an accredited Pathologists' Assistant Master's Program is essential. Certification from ASCP as a Pathologists' Assistant is required. Academic medical center experience is preferred. The responsibilities include performing gross examination and dissection of large and complex specimens. You will prepare tissues for histological processing and section surgical pathology specimens. Obtaining biological samples for flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry is essential. You will also need to obtain and review patient clinical information, such as scans, X-rays, and lab results. Experience in cut and stain frozen sections and electron microscopy is required. Strong skills in performing macroscopic descriptions of gross anatomic features are necessary. Specimen fixation, receipt, and labeling will be part of your duties.
