Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/IMU Float position requiring 2 years of PCU experience and the flexibility to float among multiple hospital locations.

Details

  • Float pool position covering PCU/IMU units across multiple hospital campuses
  • Patient population includes general medicine, surgical, neuro, onc, cardiac, and ortho cases
  • Patient ratios are IMU 1:3, Tele 1:4, and MS 1:5
  • Night shift schedule of 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:00
  • RN must be willing to work across 4 different facility locations during the contract
  • May float to EDIP (emergency department inpatient overflow in the ER)
  • May float down to Med-Surg if census permits
  • Documentation systems used include EPIC and Pyxis
  • 4-week schedule provided two weeks in advance with no blocked or self-scheduling
  • RN will be notified by phone 2 hours before each shift regarding facility assignment
  • Must work 2 of the following 3 holiday periods: Christmas Eve/Day, Thanksgiving Day/day after, and New Year's Eve/Day

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of acute care experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of full-time equivalent specialty experience within the past 2 years for specialized units
  • Current ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
  • IV start, Tele, phlebotomy, and A-line experience required
  • Cardiology and Neuro skills required for potential assignment to a new East Campus unit
  • Must pass EKG exam (up to 3 attempts)
  • 2 professional references required, including one supervisory/manager reference within the past year
  • Full 7-year work history required with all gaps explained

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • Floating occurs within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals based on census and unit needs
  • Previous UCSD employees must be gone at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Must disclose any prior UCSD employment at time of consideration for approval
  • RTO requests must be finalized and submitted upfront, as no RTO is allowed in the first 2 weeks of the assignment and RTO cannot be changed after consideration
  • Candidates may be primarily assigned to a new East Campus unit if it becomes active during the contract, requiring cardiology/neuro skills
