Description

American Traveler is hiring a float RN for a PCU position requiring at least 2 years of recent specialty experience, ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications, and both Kansas and Missouri (or compact) RN licenses in hand.

Details

  • Float position covering all Medical-Surgical/Intermediate care units, including ED inpatient holds
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown) setting with a patient ratio of 1:5
  • Patient population includes cardiac, neurological (CVA), renal, orthopedic, respiratory, and post-surgical cases
  • Clinical skills required include dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote), cardiac drip management (including titration), heparin protocols, PCA, procedural sedation, IV insulin protocols, central/peripheral/PICC line management, blood product administration, phlebotomy, chest tube management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy care, feeding tube management, wound care/wound vac, and surgical drain management
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15
  • 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period (combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
  • Epic EMR — experience preferred
  • Block scheduling is not available
  • No on-call requirement

Requirements

  • Active RN license in both Kansas and Missouri, or a compact license covering both states, must be in hand prior to consideration
  • 2 years of recent PCU/specialty experience required, with at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
  • 2 professional references required: one must be supervisor-level or above, the second may be a charge RN — both must have worked with the candidate within the past year
  • SSN required for consideration
  • Previous charge RN experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Port access/management and chemotherapy monitoring experience preferred

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of the facility are considered local and are not eligible for this position
  • Candidates who have previously worked at a BJC or Saint Luke's facility as a permanent employee must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Previous travelers must have an 18-month gap with at least a 3-month break in service before returning to this health system
  • Travel partners are not accepted for this assignment
  • Charge RN assignments may be required as needed per unit
  • Holiday shift coverage is required as assigned
  • RTO is capped at 7 days and must be submitted and finalized prior to consideration — no additional RTO requests will be accepted after submission
  • Pre-start compliance modules are required and must be completed prior to the start date
  • Drug screening is required — a diluted or positive result that cannot be cleared will result in cancellation, with a 6-month waiting period before reapplication
