Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring ventilator/trach experience and an active VA or compact RN license.

Details

• Hybrid unit consisting of 10 PCU beds and 2 ICU beds caring for vent/trach dependent patients
• Common diagnoses include DKA, COPD, sepsis, suicide/overdose, chronic respiratory failure, and renal failure
• Typical patient ratio of 1:5 with a goal of 1:4
• Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting support from Patient Care Techs
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45p-7:15a
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
• One holiday required per 13-week contract
• Floating required within skillset across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
• EPIC charting experience required

Requirements

• Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• EPIC charting system experience required
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Experience managing cardiac drips (no titration required)
• Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Ventilator care experience for chronic trach and vent patients required
• Experience with isolation precautions and PPE
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred
• Trauma Level I and teaching hospital experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive cardiac and respiratory care to a medically complex PCU population, including ventilator and tracheostomy management
• Participate in Rapid Response and Code team activations as needed
• Not considered an ideal assignment for first-time travelers
• Two professional references required for consideration
• Copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
• Local candidates are accepted under specific radius eligibility criteria
• Previous employees must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period
