Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Medical Oncology PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position requiring high-acuity PCU experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care in a hospital setting
  • Medical Oncology unit with progressive care beds, caring for solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology patient populations
  • High-acuity PCU patients with a smaller med-surg component; heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
  • Patient ratios: 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for med-surg telemetry
  • Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30); rotating day/night contracts may be assigned days, nights, or a combination based on departmental needs
  • Self-scheduling: candidates submit preferred schedule requests prior to final schedule posting
  • Floating required to units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Equipment used includes GE B450 telemetry monitors, bladder scanner, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
  • Pediatric patients are occasionally present on the unit but are extremely rare and typically cared for by permanent staff; pediatric experience is not required

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS (BCLS), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 2 years of high-acuity PCU experience required
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Previous travel experience preferred
  • Required clinical skills include: cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response team utilization, feeding tube care and management, port access, blood product administration, central/PICC/peripheral line care and management, IV insertion, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management (no titration), PCA management, cardiac drip titration, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
  • Preferred clinical skills include: dysrhythmia management, IV insulin and insulin drip titration protocols, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
  • 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a Manager, Director, or formal leadership role (e.g., Supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; co-worker references are not accepted

Additional Information

  • 16-week contract
  • Orientation: first week is Monday–Friday dayshift; second week is 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
  • All candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting as soon as possible after booking; candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location, and those farther away will be mailed a fingerprinting packet to complete urgently upon receipt
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
  • Former facility employees are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month separation from the facility
  • RTO must be submitted at the time of consideration and built into the contract; RTO is limited to 7 days or fewer for the contract duration
  • Parking is available for agency staff through CampusParc at an additional cost; multiple permit options are available depending on convenience and budget preferences
