Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced PCU RN for a night shift travel contract at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of recent PCU/telemetry experience and both Missouri and Kansas RN licensure (or compact equivalent).

- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a 456-bed tertiary care, Level I Trauma, 5-time Magnet-designated teaching hospital
- Patient population includes pulmonary, wound, urology, general cardiac, general neuro, and general renal diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5; ratio may occasionally flex to 1:6
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
- 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule period, with shifts falling on a combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Floating between departments, units, and facilities may be regularly required
- No on-call requirements
- Charting system: Epic (experience required)
- Required skills include interpretation of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, heparin protocols, PCA, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), non-invasive airway management, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
- Preferred skills include management of dysrhythmias, use of Rapid Response Teams, tracheostomy management, feeding tube care, CVA management, renal failure, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, surgical drains, and ER holding experience
Requirements
- Active RN license — both Missouri and Kansas licenses (or a compact license) must be in hand prior to consideration, as floating between state lines may be required
- Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/telemetry specialty experience required, with at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Epic charting experience required
- Travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- 2 professional references required: at least one must be supervisor-level or above; the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from someone who has worked with the candidate within the past year
- SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Charge RN assignments may be required as needed per unit; previous charge experience is preferred
- Holiday shift coverage is required as assigned
- RTO is limited to a maximum of 7 days and must be finalized prior to consideration; no additional RTO requests will be accepted after submission
- Candidates who have previously worked at BJC or Saint Luke's as a permanent employee must wait 1 year before being considered for a travel assignment at any BJC facility
- Candidates who have previously traveled with BJC/Saint Luke's must have at least 18 months of separation with a minimum 3-month break in service before returning
- Scrub color: Navy

- Compliance modules totaling 10–15 hours are required prior to the start date; Epic training should be completed first, with a test-out option available
