Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Neuroscience/High-Risk Respiratory PCU position requiring PCU/stepdown experience, ventilator experience, and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • care unit in a 36-bed Neuroscience/High-Risk Respiratory Progressive Care Unit
  • Mixed acuity intermediate care unit currently serving as a high-risk respiratory/COVID unit, transitioning back to a neuro intermediate care unit
  • Patient population includes cerebrovascular accident (CVA), transient ischemic attack (TIA), seizures, and other neurological conditions
  • Targeted patient ratios of 1:4-6
  • Unit may use a team nursing model where RNs, LPNs, and PCTs partner to divide workload among a group of patients
  • Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours from 19:00 to 7:30
  • 13-week contract length
  • Uses heated high flow nasal cannula and BiPAP equipment
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Traveler will be first to float at facility discretion, potentially to the Neuro ICU or other specialty clusters including high-risk respiratory/COVID units
  • May float to main campus (Dayton), south campus (Centerville), or north campus (Englewood)
  • Every other weekend and holiday work required

Requirements

  • Active RN license (State of Ohio or Compact) required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • IV Start skills preferred
  • Minimum 1.5 years of RN experience required
  • PCU or stepdown unit experience with 1:5 ratio required; ICU experience alone does not qualify
  • Ventilator experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment before starting the assignment
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Travel experience preferred
  • Candidates with any past license disciplinary action will not be accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide skilled nursing care to a diverse neuroscience and high-risk respiratory patient population
  • Function within a team nursing or primary nursing model depending on unit needs
  • Assigned appropriate patients within the Neuro ICU with a designated buddy when floating
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Lab work and EKG/Dysrhythmia exam must be completed within 72 hours of signing the contract
  • Maximum of 14 days RTO allowed per contract; no RTO or schedule changes permitted after an offer is made
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted
  • Previous permanent, PRN, or agency staff not extended due to tenure must wait 6 months before reapplying as a traveler, subject to facility rehire approval
  • Travelers are not eligible for facility employee incentives
