Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit

Unit Information

This is a fast-paced and challenging cardiac unit located at a center for excellence. It operates as a high acuity progressive/intermediate care unit.

• Number of Beds: 30
• Number of Staff: 65
• Type of Staff: RNs and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
• Typical Patient Ratios: 1:4, often in a 1:5 ratio
• Type of Equipment: Telemetry monitors, transport monitors, suction devices, feeding pumps, tracheostomy care equipment, BiPAP, CPAP, heated high flow devices, chest tubes, Foley catheters, pacemaker wires, IV pumps, and SCD pumps
• Electronic Medical Record System: Meditech

Key Responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit, you will be responsible for:

• Providing post-cardiac procedure care, including right and left heart catheterizations, TAVRs, ablations, and pacemaker implantations.
• Managing post-thoracic surgery care, including VATs/RATs and lobectomies.
• Providing pre and post-operative care for open-heart surgical patients, including CABGs, MVRs, and AVRs.
• Administering and monitoring intravenous drips such as heparin, diltiazem, amiodarone, Lasix, dobutamine, milrinone, and ketamine.
• Collaborating effectively with team members to ensure high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Required: Minimum of 1 year of current PCU hospital experience.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale.
• Preferred Skills: Experience with chest tube management, oxygen management (up to BiPAP & heated high flow), and performing 12-lead EKGs.
