Description

American Traveler is hiring a PCU Registered Nurse for a 13-week assignment requiring active VA or compact RN license and telemetry/cardiac monitoring experience.

Details

• Progressive Care Unit within a Level I Trauma Center teaching hospital
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule block
• Patient ratio typically 1:5, with a goal ratio of 4:1
• Cares for adult and geriatric patients with high turnover
• Primary focus on chest pain management, ruling in/out MI, and expediting ER flow
• Receives overflow from cardiology and medicine PCU, including occasional post-cath patients
• Utilizes remote telemetry monitoring with tele-sitting in place
• Floating required within skillset
• Epic charting system experience required

Requirements

• Active VA state or compact RN license required (single-state license accepted only if pending from a non-compact state)
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and Rapid Response/Code team activation
• Experienced in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Proficient in administering and managing cardiac drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, and Lasix (no titration)
• Experience with respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen delivery, and non-invasive airway management

Additional Information

• Provide bedside nursing care in a fast-paced progressive care setting focused on cardiac and chest pain management
• Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
• Must work at least one holiday per 13-week contract, with 2 required during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/Day)
• All RTO requests must be submitted upfront at time of consideration
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted, though radius rules apply based on distance from facility as measured from driver's license address
• Candidates residing within 100 miles are generally considered local and not accepted, with limited exceptions for inpatient RNs residing 50-99.9 miles away eligible for a single 13-week assignment with no extension
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must wait at least one year before returning as a traveler
• Travelers cannot return after having worked 365 total days on assignment, regardless of separation period, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case by facility leadership
