Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

General Information

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse for our Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This position requires a commitment to providing exceptional patient care in a dynamic environment.

Unit Specifics

• Number of Beds: 34 beds in unit 630, 25 beds in unit 633
• Patient Ratios: 1:4 to 1:5 on days, 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
• Unit Staffing: 3 techs when full on unit 630, 2 techs when full on unit 633
• Type of Equipment: Bipaps, high flow O2, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, and peritoneal dialysis equipment.
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling Requirements: Every other weekend required for contracts, working 3 twelve-hour shifts a week.
• Floating Policy: May need to float between PCU units or to medical-surgical floors.
• Patient Experience Requirements: Hourly rounding on days, every two hours on nights, utilizing AIDET, and maintaining communication boards.

Required Qualifications

• Current BLS and ACLS certification
• Critical thinking skills
• EKG rhythm interpretation
• Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips
• Peripheral IV skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with peritoneal dialysis
• Experience in stroke and post-cardiac catheterization care
• Experience with tube feeding and NG/Dobhoff tube management

Procedures Performed on Unit

• Peritoneal dialysis
• Thoracentesis
• Paracentesis
• Chest tube insertions
• Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
• Central line dressing changes
• Troubleshooting wound vacs

Dress Code

Black scrubs are required.

Additional Information

• The unit utilizes self-scheduling with schedules maintained over four weeks.
• Contract staff are required to work every other weekend.
• Support staff are available to assist with patient care, promoting teamwork and a family-oriented culture.
• Many staff members extend their contracts after their initial term due to the positive work environment.
